Kentucky Mountain Mission is a conservative, independent, evangelical, faith Mission that ministers in southeast Kentucky. Our outreaches are varied and include rural church ministry, Youth Haven Bible Camp, school clubs, fitness/recreational facilities and a number of community outreaches.

The purpose of Kentucky Mountain Mission is to promote the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the study of the Bible, the saving of the lost, and the edification of believers in the Kentucky mountains and vicinity.

Kentucky Mountain Mission was in embryo form when Miss Annie Bethke went from her German home in Minnesota to attend the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in California. After conquering certain language difficulties, Miss Bethke graduated and came to Breathitt County, Kentucky in 1919, where she continued her work for the Lord as long as she was physically able, retiring in 1961, two years before she was called into the presence of her Saviour.

Although Miss Bethke had nothing to do officially with the organization of the Kentucky Mountain Mission, she has for many years been recognized as the founder of the work. In 1933, the prayer group who had been supporting her at the throne of grace, decided that they should organize a mission, themselves acting as the Board of Directors, in an effort to send more workers to the needy field in the mountains of Kentucky. The Mission was incorporated in 1942. Some of the early missionaries were sent to Miss Bethke’s home to help until they became accustomed to the area and resettled in a separate place to serve the Lord. (From the KMM Policy Manual)
